Cemetery Preservation Field Experience at College Park Cemetery

Cemeteries are important cultural and historical resources. Cemeteries can provide insights into past lifeways through studying the material construction of grave markers and through the text and the symbols on grave markers.

In the Fall 2001 Introduction to Archaeology course taught by David Bruner, students gained skills in cemetery surveying and grave marker recording. The images below show Houston Community College students participating in a historic cemetery preservation experience at the College Park cemetery in Houston.
