GEOL 2430 Environmental Geology

Course Description

Prerequisites: ENVR 1301 (Formerly GEOL 1305) or GEOL 1403 and MATH 1314 or equivalent

The applied study of geology from an environmental perspective that focuses on interactions between humans and the earth’s surface and resources. Course includes study of soils, natural hazards, river flooding, landslides and debris flows, earthquakes, volcanic eruption, coastal, surface and ground water use and pollution, wind erosion and desertification, solid waste management, mineral and energy resources, and geologic factors in urban and regional land-use planning. The laboratory portion of the course consists of labs dealing with environmental geologic topics. Core Curriculum Course.
