CSME 2544 Cosmetology Instructor IV (2 lecture, 6 lab) (128 contact hours) This course is a presentation of advanced concepts of instruction in a cosmetology program. Topics include demonstration and implementation of advanced evaluation and assessment techniques. This course is a combination of lecture and lab (128 contact hours). Course Focus: The central focus of this course is to prepare the student to prepare assessment instruments to measure student learning outcomes. Emphasis will be place in assessing learning student learning styles and transfer of knowledge. |

Course Competencies: This course is designed to assist the student in obtaining the following competencies: a.? Identify different learning styles. b.? Identify the basic methods for transfer of knowledge. c.? Demonstrate proper assessment and evaluation techniques for assessing learning of technical skills. d.? Demonstrate knowledge of evaluation instruments and remedial measures. e.? Develop and field-test a skill evaluation instrument. f.? Develop and field-test an information evaluation instrument. STATEMENT OF FOUNDATION SKILLS AND WORKPLACE COMPETENCIES (SCAN SKILLS) A study was conducted for the Department of Labor by the American Society for Training and Development which identified the seven skills HCCS is committed to preparing every student with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in today’s dynamic work environment.? Towards this ends, the following skills will be included in this course.? Testing and assessing these skill will vary according to the individual instructor.? The following are examples of how these skills may be incorporated into this course. SCANS COMPETENCIES ADDRESSED IN THIS COURSE: ?Through the use of the SCANS skills incorporated in this course the student will be able to: I.USE INFORMATION SKILLS a. Acquire relevant information pertinent to the administration of a cosmetology class. II. APPLY THINKING SKILLS a. Display creative thinking by developing lesson plans to motivate and stimulate learner interest. III. EMPLOY INTERPERSONAL SKILLS a. Participate as Team Member IV. DISPLAY APPROPRIATE PERSONAL QUALITIES a. Exhibit Responsibility for assigned work, research projects etc. in a timely manner. b. Demonstrate Appropriate Social Skills in relating to students, classmates and instructors and clients. d. Display Integrity & Honesty in grading and evaluating all student coursework Performance Objectives: Performance Objectives: o Given the specifications and guidelines for an individual or group project, the student will use course learning outcomes A-C. Performance will be satisfactory if the projects are consistent with the guidelines given by the instructor and are submitted within the required time frame. o Given the guidelines for an individual project, the student will use course learning outcomes D-H c. Performance will be satisfactory if the assigned project is consistent with the guidelines given by the instructor and is submitted within the required time frame. o Given the guidelines for an individual project, the student will use course learning outcomes I-k d. Academic Honesty |

Students are expected to conduct themselves with honor and integrity in fulfilling the course requirements. Any student caught cheating, plagiarizing or in collusion will receive an "F" for the exam and will be dropped from the program. Please see the student handbook. |

Attendance and Withdrawal Policies |
|
Students are expected to be in attendance and on time every day. Students will be dropped from the course after 3 absences. Students arriving in class after 8:30 will not be allowed to clock in. It is the responsibility of the student to withdraw from the course. Failure to do so may result in an "F" for the semester. |

Course Requirements and Grading Policy |
|
Students are responsible for conducting themselves in an adult and responsible manner. Disruptions to the teaching environment will not be tolerated. Student instructors are not to fraternize with the student body, disrupt or dispute the instructor in charge at any time. Junior instructors are to dress in a professional manner and model good behavior and respect to the student body. Students must dress professionally and wear a white lab jacket and closed toes shoes with hosiery. High heels sandals or shoes with no backs are not permitted. Testing |
|
Examinations for this course will consist of essays, multiple choice or simulated situations, as well as situational observations by the instructors. |

Make-up policy |
|
Students will not be permitted to make up unit exams. Make-up for mid-term or finals will be at the discretion of the instructor. The student must take the initiative to make arrangements with the instructor no later than three (3) days after the missed exam. |
