Biography or Teaching Philosophy

I am originally from the Northeast of the United States, but I’ve lived in several foreign countries. My master’s degree is in Nutrition from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. I’ve had various jobs in nutrition from WIC Director in a rural county in Ohio to Clinical Dietitian at Spring Brand Medical Center in Houston. I enjoy teaching nutrition the most so I chose to become a full-time instructor.

I’m especially excited about the use of technology in the classroom. The Basic Nutrition classes I teach on campus have a Blackboard shell that the students access for supplemental lecture notes, handouts, power points and other resources. I also teach this class as a distance education course using the Internet.

Whether over the Internet or in class, I expect the students to interact with and learn from their classmates. For this reason, we do a lot of group work, preparing and presenting our research.
