For two years, Dr. Daniels showed power points, charts, and handouts that had a large green space in front of the San Jacinto Building...allowing unobstructed views of two of the most historic and beautiful buildings in Houston, SJAC and the Heinen. Then along comes Dr. Harmon and there's a new building on the map...cold, glassy, and modern blocking the views. I've head the premise that it's an educational hub and should be in the heart of the campus. The campus heart will be where ever you build it. Why ruin the opportunity to make a beautiful and classy campus? It's a sad, sad decision.

Out with the old and in with the new. I think the new rendition looks great!!! Maybe now HCC Central will have more to offer its students as far as technology is concerned. If you ask me it is a change much needed.

I really do not care where you are going to put the building, however as a counselor I am concern that our offices will not have the privacy that is required when we counsel our students. I saw the sketch and did not see any doors only walls between offices. I like for those who plan this building to consider this for if we do not address the privacy issue the system will open up a Bandora Box.In terms of space we need more space then just a 10x18 feet . It seems to me that this is going to spacing will be worst then Eastside. Question? Has anyone thought of the future for the college has a history of doing a piecemeal job and thingking that we got at the end a great building. Remember, we were told two years ago that we were suppose to have two buildings, now we are going to have one and by building only one the college saved $1.5 million , so where did the money go?.

Luis Trevino, Thank you for your comments. The various users of the Learning Hub/Science Building have had a series of meetings with the Facilities Planning team and the architects to discuss many specific concerns. The discussions have resulted in changes in the specific areas being discussed. The Learning Hub/Science Building is in the final stages of design.

I think the design of the facility is amazing. The glass facade will allow full-frontal views of the exterior and sunlight to filter in through the entire building. Kudos to the designer.

I sympathize with Gullible's comments, but I'm afraid that all progress has some price. I recall once that, professor O'Banion?, told us that the San jacinto building was designed to psychologically repel the type of student that the HCC is supposed to attract with its facade harkening to classic, upper-class exclusivity and not open and inviting to the masses. There is always some controversity when it comes to tastes in art, and architecture is one such art form. Independent of whether its space is adequate or as functional as it can be, I am pleased with the overall design and sparkling glass exterior of the building. It almost feels like the Pei glass pyramid in the midst of the classical Louvre buildinggs in paris. As for the space allocated to my department, I like it. Of course, it is not ideal. It needs additional windows, more part-time work stations, privacy booths for quiet study, etc. but overall it will be quite adequate and, I expect, pleasant. Like it or not, our students very much prefer modern buildings with comfortable and new furnishings. My biggest concern is that if we do not expedite the completion of these plans, the cost will become prohibitive very soon and we'll end up with half as much building as when the plans began under the Daniels presidency. And we wonder why today the Chronicle reports a $67 million shortfall in bond monies for the planned buildings!! Best wishes and godspeed to us all!

This is a horrible building. It doesn't fit into the neighborhood and it doesn't add to the campus atmosphere. Please reconsider.
